One-on-One Surf Coaching

Our all-inclusive Costa Rica surf resort provides step-by-step instruction for all experience levels. Increase your ocean awareness and learn the nine surfing fundamentals created by surfing’s pioneer professional surfer, Corky Carroll.

Mornings consist of (1) hour private surf lessons, with each session filmed and analyzed, providing an innovative way to capture and improve individual surf progression (an idea we proudly originated). Group instruction is each afternoon.

No need to bring a board. We have nearly 100 surfboards in our quiver to choose from!

Come for the Surf, Stay for the Food

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is complimentary each day. Enjoy delicious family style cuisine prepared by our in-house chefs, using the freshest ingredients of the highest quality.

Expect a daily rotation of soups, local market fish, seafood, pork, chicken and organic greens, including traditional Costa Rican white rice and black beans. All meals include a selection of local Costa Rican juices and beer.

We have been to Corky Carroll’s Costa Rica for years. Every time we ask the kids where they would prefer to go on a family vacation, it’s always Corky Carroll’s! We are a family that likes adventure and not the touristy cookie cutter vacation. We love to Surf, zip line, hike and do yoga; all of that is available for us there. When I stepped out of the van (slightly buzzed and slightly car sick) years ago, in front of Corky Carroll’s, I didn’t know I was about to have the first of many amazing vacations. Nor did I know I was going to meet new friends for life, or bond more closely with my existing pack of surf buddies. I didn’t know I’d push beyond what I thought I could do in my surfing (which is still not a lot but I still feel welcome and accepted at Corky’s). But all of that turned out to be true, and years later my friends and I still return, annually if we can. I LOVE everything about this place — the teachers (especially), the food, the staff, the owners, the town, the training methodology, Bernie time, the other guests, you name it. It’s an amazing place to learn or hone your surfing skills, no matter what your age, level, etc. and a genuinely chill & fun place to hang for a week (or hopefully two this year!).

Corky Carroll’s Surf School was so warm and welcoming to our family on vacation last year! Their hospitality, friendliness, and all around genuine compassion towards us was above and beyond what I could have expected. Being in a new country for my first time, I was extremely nervous and not sure what to expect. They made the entire process easy and manageable, even for my travel-challenged parents. Throughout our trip we went fishing, surfing, hiking, and also did a great amount of relaxing at Corky Carroll’s in-between all the adventuring. (The hammocks are by far the best place to nap!) The food was AMAZING. We ate like kings the entire trip at the surf school. When we did go out to dinner, it wasn’t nearly as good as the food that was served at home base. We even brought back some Red Snapper we caught on our fishing trip and they cooked it up for Dinner & Lunch the following day. We enjoyed our stay SO much, we booked our next trip within the following month of getting home. It was truly a delight to be around such an amazing, loving family and being treated like their own. I am beyond stoked for our upcoming trip this November! Thank you to all my friends at the Corky Carroll Surf School!!

Awesome! What a wonderful word to describe our visit to Corky Carroll’s Surf School in Costa Rica. It was so nice to have a ride waiting for us at the airport to shuttle us to Nosara. The grounds were so pretty and well groomed. Everyone was so kind. Collin helped up make arrangements for fishing and zip lining. From our place, we were able to walk to the beach or into town. We even rented a car to go up the coast to Tamarindo for the day. The rooms were very clean and tidy. It was very reassuring that each room had an attached safe in it for our special belongings. I have to make a plug to the cooks. They are amazing!!! Having someone prepare the meals was one of my favorite parts of the trip. I didn’t have to do any planning or prepping. All I had to do was show up and enjoy.

Our family had such an awesome trip that we are going back again next year. We have already booked the dates and got our airfare. What a neat place. I highly suggest that it is on everyone’s bucket list. Pura Vida!

Our first trip to the Costa Rica Corky Carroll’s Surf Camp was in March 2016. There were 7 of us in our group (experienced surfers and nonsurfers) and we had a fabulous time! The owners and staff were welcoming, friendly, and always ready to give us tips on the line up as well as other activities for the non-surfers. The beach was a short walk from the camp and was gorgeous! The rooms are nice, clean, and spacious. The food was all fresh and delicious and the beer cold! Oh, and we had dial-a-surf. Anywhere from a couple of foot overhead out front, to shoulder high down the beach. We are very excited about our repeat trip next year.

We have made many trips to Corky Carroll’s over the last few years. On our first trip we were immediately impressed by the large number of returning guests. Many had been going there since Rick Walker first opened the school at Playa Guiones sometime in the previous century.

The reasons we all keep returning are simple. 1) The surfing conditions are great. Playa Guiones offers a very consistent and forgiving break that is both great for learning the basics and for developing more advanced skills. 2) The instructors are in tune to the needs of the students. Whether you are riding a longboard or a shortboard, you will find the instructors will tailor their instruction to meet your needs. 3) Once you step off the plane, there are no decisions to make other than how much do you want to surf. From your ride-in, to your ride back to the airport, everything is taken care of for you.

The accommodations are comfortable, the food is great, the beer is cold, the guests and staff are friendly, and the pace around the camp is leisurely. You won’t have to debate where you will eat each meal. The cooler is always open, and there are plenty of surfboards to try. 4) You will make new friends. With only six rooms on site, the group setting is intimate. After a week of surfing, eating, socializing and relaxing with the guests and staff, you will have developed a whole new circle of friends. In fact, we now plan our trips to coincide with friends that we made during previous trips to Corky’s.
Keep in mind this is not a high rise luxury resort. This is a surf camp run by surfers, for surfers (and aspiring surfers), and it is located in a surfing village. There are no flat screen TVs in the rooms and there are ceiling fans for cooling. That said, you will never miss them, and they are not part of the Pura Vida experience. At this point, we could pretty much go and surf wherever we want. The simple fact is that we keep going back to Corky Carroll’s because it feels like home.
