Corky Carroll’s Surf School was the first surf school in Huntington Beach and has been teaching surfing lessons for over 25 years.
We provide our students the fundamentals for learning to surf using the teaching methods created by surfing’s first professional surfer: Corky Carroll.
Our instructors have an abundance of surfing knowledge and experience to teach all levels of surfing. We start with the basics and before you know it you’re up and riding.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best age to take a surf lesson?
Every age! It is never too early or late to learn to surf. We teach surfing lessons to all ages, from 4 years old to 80+. We also teach surfing to kids younger than 4, but recommend they participate in our Junior Surf Camp rather than take a private surf lesson.
What should I expect from a surf lesson?
Getting stoked! We tailor each lesson to your skills and abilities. If this is your first time surfing we start on the beach with a brief intro to proper techniques. The rest of the lesson takes place in the water where our instructors help you learn how to:
- Safely paddle out into oncoming waves
- Recognize the best waves for riding
- Paddle into a wave
- Stand up while catching a wave
- Balance on the surfboard
- End your ride by falling off safely
Our instructors will assist you in every step of learning, remaining by your side in and out of the water. They will also cover ocean safety, proper surf etiquette and, most important of all, having fun.
How much do surf lessons cost?
A 2-hour surf lesson costs $155 for one person. We offer discounted rates for groups dependent on how many will be surfing.
When is the best time to surf?
We recommend surfing in the morning when conditions are best and ideal for beginners. Our earliest surf lesson starts at 8am. In the afternoon winds pick up and the waves are more difficult to learn on. Since we are located in Huntington Beach — one of the most consistent wave zones in the country — there is no bad time of the year to learn to surf, and we are open during every season.
